Injectables & Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to enhance the appearance of your skin. Many dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance your body produces naturally.

By injecting this acid into areas of your skin, you can safely increase volume and fill in creases and wrinkles without risk of rejection from your body. Dr. Amaya offers the latest dermal fillers to address age-related skin issues and other flaws, like:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Brow creases
  • Lost facial volume

Treatment involves precise injections of medically safe substances into specific areas of your skin to add volume and improve the contours of your cheeks, lips, and other facial features. Filling in areas of loose, sagging skin also enhances the firmness and smoothness of your skin.

Dr. Amaya determines which fillers are right for you based on your goals and after a review of your medical history. During your consultation, he discusses your expectations for treatment and designs your treatment plan to ensure natural-looking, long-lasting results.

What is Botox®?

Unlike dermal fillers, which fill in areas of lost volume, Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for causing deep-set wrinkles and creases that form on your forehead and near your brow line. Botox can also address crow’s feet — those pesky wrinkles and lines that form around your eyes.

These skin flaws develop after years of squinting and other facial movements, making you look older than you are. By paralyzing the muscles, your features can begin to relax, softening your overall appearance.

What can I expect during a dermal filler procedure?

To keep you comfortable during the injections, Dr. Amaya may apply a topical anesthetic to numb your skin in the treatment area.

He follows a customized treatment plan, placing the injections in certain areas of the skin to achieve desired results. You may need multiple injections during your appointment.

After your injections, Dr. Amaya may recommend avoiding certain strenuous activities for a few days, but you can expect to go back to your usual routine the same day.

You may have some mild redness, swelling, and bruising immediately after treatment, but these issues should resolve on their own in a few days. Many people can see a significant difference in their appearance right away, but your results will continue to improve as swelling dissipates.

Dr. Amaya can discuss how long your results will last based on the areas being treated and the type of dermal filler used. In many cases, dermal fillers provide results that last for several months or even up to a year before additional injections are necessary.
