Wound Care Q & A

What are common wounds seen in their office?

Dr. Amaya offers comprehensive wound care services for noncritical wounds in infant, children, and adults that occur due to:

  • Falls
  • Burns
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Animal bites
  • Car accidents
  • Bicycle accidents
  • Infections
  • Surgical wounds
  • Pressure ulcers "Bed Sores"
  • Chronic open wounds that fail to heal
  • Ostomy related wounds

It’s important that you schedule a consultation with Dr. Amaya for any wound that goes beyond a simple scrape or bump to ensure the wound fully recovers and isn’t at risk for long-term health complications.

For acute and critical wounds, seek immediate help from the local emergency room or by calling 911.

How does Dr. Amaya approach and treat wounds?

If an infant, child, or adult is suffering from a complex or chronic wound, Dr. Amaya creates a custom treatment plan focusing on closing the wound, relieving pain, reducing infection, and minimizing scarring.

Dr. Amaya uses a variety of wound care techniques, advanced wound dressings, and negative pressure devices with proven efficacy and safety.

Pain management is also a vital part of Dr. Amaya's treatment plan. The ideal wound treatment will be useless if the patient is unable to tolerate the discomfort from the procedure.

Dr. Amaya will provide each patient with appropriate prescription oral pain medications, topical numbing creams, oral anti-anxiety meds, and inhaled nitrous gas to make each visit and dressing change as tolerable as possible.

For those patients with severe wounds that cannot tolerate any touching of the wound, brief inpatient conscious sedation can be arranged to ensure safe and effective wound management.

What can I expect during a wound care consultation?

During the evaluation, Dr. Amaya and his team assess the severity of the wound and discuss the available options for treatment. He believes in open communication with every patient and their caretakers and offers comprehensive guidance to help heal wounds as quickly as possible.

Every treatment plan focuses on treating the “whole patient”, not just “the hole in the patient,” ensuring every patient receives the highest level of care. Dr. Amaya works with you every step of the way to ensure the treatment plan is understood, easily performed at home and complications avoided.

Wound care supplies are made available for purchase directly in the office to avoid time wasted driving to various locations or online trying to find similar or comparable dressings.

Protect you or your child’s health by scheduling a wound care evaluation as soon as possible. You can book an appointment conveniently online or by calling the office today.
